      * organization of sound is diff for everyone, hence why it is sound for some and noise for others
  • form, meaning, self
      * form: learning the basic fundamentals (foundation) then move on to meaning; how you or other ppl have applied these fundamentals
      * meaning: learn abt how others have constructed a certain composition
      * self: create your own compositions
  • elements: qualitative, quantifiable, dimensional
      * qualitative- tone, aesthetics, musicality (phrasing), culture (context), performance practice
        * tone- texture of a sound
        * aesthetics is shaped
        * culture (context)- spotify, youtube, amazon are mainstream, have a responsibility to earn money, ethical music, every music has a reference to culture
          * performance practice- the way in which you make the music sound cultural
      * quantifiable- pitch, rhythm
        * choir standardizes the pitch and rhythm together
      * dimensional- space, time, movements, meaning, lullaby
        * space: music cannot survive in a vacuum
        * time: w/o time there will be no rhythm
        * movement: all forms of music require movement, if there is no movement there is no sound, which means no music
        * meaning: contextual meaning
        * value btwn cultural context and meaning
  • key concepts: energy/feel, intonation, harmony, modes/scales, counterpoint
      * harmony: make the sound thick/thicker than it usually is, taking notes and stacking them together (multiply the layers)
      * intonation: hit the right sound at the right time, if you hit the right sound at the right time your intonation is correct, if you hit the wrong sound at the right time it means you are tone deaf, if you hit the right sound at the wrong time it means your rhythm is off
      * energy/feel: music can change the energy/feel of the environment
      * counterpoint: perform 2 melodies together
