1st Corinthians 1

  1. Paul announces it is him who is writing to the church of Corinth

    1. A church sanctified in Jesus to be saints

    2. Paul gives thanks and peace to the church from Our Father and Jesus

    3. Paul thanks God for the grace our Lord has given them to be enriched by everything of God

    4. They acknowledge the testimony of Jesus and wait for his revelation so that they may be blameless come that day

  2. Warning

    1. Don’t let yourselves be divided

    2. Be joined together in mind and judgment by Jesus

    3. There have been cliques made in the church

      1. People saying they are “Of Paul” or “ Of Cephas” or “Of Christ”

    4. Paul even thanks God that he only baptized 2 people the church so nobody could say he baptized in his own name

    5. He says he was sent to spread the gospel, not to baptize anyway

      1. In simple terms, so that the message of the cross doesn’t go over anyone’s heads

    6. For those already dying, the message of the cross is foolishness

      1. But to those saved, it is the power of God

      2. God is not just for the smartest or wisest, but for everyone

      3. The Jews seek a sign while Gentiles seek wisdom, but these are foolish stumbling blocks for both groups

    7. Some people may see God’s wisdom as foolish

      1. He doesn’t always pick the noblest, strongest, or smartest people

      2. But God has chosen them to put shame to the wise, noble, and strong

      3. Nothing of the flesh will find glory in his presence

    8. True wisdom, nobility, and strength belong to those who believe in the power of the cross

      1. It is all done for the glory of God

      2. Jesus Christ died so that we may receive the wisdom of God: righteousness, sanctification, redemption
