Central Dogma

  • Central Dogma:
    • DNA (Replication) → Transcription → RNA → Translation → Protein
    • DNA contains the genome
    • Genes: DNA packaged into discrete units
    • replication: process of copying genome
    • DNA polymerase: enzymes that catalyze the replication process
    • Transcription: DNA is transcribed into RNA by RNA polymerase
    • Translation: nucleic acid is translated into protein
      • takes place on ribosome
    • Selective expression: although each cell has all the DNA information to make all tissues, it expresses different genes which define function of cell or tissue
