FRQ TIPS

You can follow a simple 3-step FRQ strategy:

  1. Read the command term (describe, explain, draw, etc.). This tells you what type of reasoning is expected.

    • Describe = state facts directly.

    • Explain = give cause-and-effect reasoning.

    • Draw/Label = show relationships visually.

  2. Recall the key concept (for water: polarity, hydrogen bonding, density, surface tension). Jot down keywords on scratch paper: polar, H-bonds, lattice, density, insulation.

  3. Write 2–4 sentences:

    • Sentence 1: Identify the key idea.

    • Sentence 2: Connect it to the phenomenon asked in the question.

    • Optional: Add one more sentence for examples/clarity.

You’ll spend ~3 minutes per part, which adds up to ~12–15 minutes total.
