  • An element cannot be broken down into anything simpler by chemical means

  • An atom is incredibly small and only recently have we been able to see atoms which optical microscopes. Light microscopes cant be used to see atoms

  • It is now possible with nano technology to image and manipulate atoms (watch video)

  • Atoms are mostly empty space, containing a nucleus
