Genre : a distinctive type of category of literature ( example : romance, horror, drama, etc. )

Drama : a story acted usually on stage

Comedy : a literacy work that is amusing and end happily

Tragedy ; a literacy work in which the central character meets an unhappy or disastrous end.

Fiction : Fake story

Non- fiction : Real story and facts ( NF = NOT FAKE )

Novel : a long fictional prose narrative

Short story : narrative prose fiction that is shorter than a novel.

Poem : language arranged in lines with a regular rhythm

Metaphor : a comparison between 2 unlike things

Simile : a comparison between 2 unlike things using like or as

Personification : giving human qualities to non-human things

Oxymoron : the use of opposite in literature

Hyperbole - the use of great exaggeration in literature.

Irony : the contrast between reality and what seems real ( expectation vs reality )

Dramatic Irony : the audience or reader is giving info the characters don’t have ( we know but the characters don’t )

Foreshadowing : the use of clues or hints in literature.

Tone : the author’s attitude towards his/her work.

Mood : feeling the reader gets after reading a work ( atmosphere the reader felt )

Alliteration : repetition of consonant sounds at the beginning of words ( Sally shells seashells by the seashore )

Assonance : repetition of vowel sounds in the middle of the word (The rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain )

Imagery : written language that appeals to senses

Onomatopoeia : use of a word whose sound imitate meaning ( boom, pop, bang )

Setting : time and place in the story

Characters : any person who plays a part in the e story

Protagonist : main character ( positive

Antagonist : opposite to the protagonist ( negative )

Theme : The big idea of the story
