Y11 Mid-Term Break: PLAN

English (Dual Course with Edexcel) 📖

(1) Language: 🔵 Moderately review the seen texts from Y10… Specifically, the first two pages & “H is for Hawk” / “A danger of a Single Story”.

Note-taking & look over old materials from last year.

(2) Literature: ↪ (link in Teams) & re-read “OMAM”. Complete the mind-maps already started in class!! 💬 *For English, as a whole subject: I believe it’s reasonably safe to say, that it’s one of my best subjects & also one the subjects I find most interesting to learn 🌟!! However, that doesn’t mean that I shouldn’t be going over the crucial parts of the content, 🔄 every now and then because I know I have plenty to learn and practice, before my any assessments/mocks.

Mathematics! *Foundation Edexcel📊

Things to focus on: 🟢 Look over the relevant topics that have been covered this half-term! 🔄 Complete a couple (small amount) of questions (varying in difficulty) to recall knowledge & understanding of those topics… PRACTICE! Also, it’s important❕to be aware that this subject is most definitely the one I find the HARDEST 😓!!! Truly, I’ve been struggling with this specific subject like since I was 6 years old (and now I’m almost 16 years old now, for many weeks in Y10, I was even convinced that I had dyscalculia because I had many of the symptoms consistently, but I never got professionally tested for this 😅). I feel like most of the time I’m so confused, reluctant, and irritated with attempting to learn & understand any new topics.

➡ Use online resources!! Like short & simple YT videos for clarity on: Probability, Linear/Non-Linear Graphs, basic algebra (mainly expanding and factorizing). 

Biology🧬 (Oxford AQA Science)

Things to focus on: 🟣 The two topics already newly covered this half-term! Chapters B11 & B12 ✔ **Review the content in depth, slowly but surely for Chapters B1 up to B10… Use online (Teams) resources, YT videos and individual summary pages. There is HW to do on Teams!!

Alright, so Biology is a branch of science 🌿 that I really admire, and I think it’s so cool to learn about all the aspects of how our bodies function, how animals function in their natural habitats, as well as how plants survive & thrive in their own environments. I think this subject is so incredibly fascinating ✨!! BUT, oh my goodness IS IT HARD!!! 😭 Honestly, it’s been extremely challenging & rough to achieve the grades that I really want in Biology (which would probably be a 6/7 Grade). I’d be pretty satisfied with a Grade 5, to be honest with you 🤭. But, yeah it’s hard for me to explain… I just struggle quite often here.

➡ Aftermath: To practice past-paper questions and then self-access using the relevant mark scheme.

**There’s a HIGH chance that I may switch to doing AQA Combined Science (instead of Triple Science)!

Chemistry 🧪 (Oxford AQA Science)

Things to focus on: 🔴 - Electrolysis, Organic Chemistry, & The States of Matter (Atoms). Ionic and Covalent Bonding, Chemical Reactions and Energetics.

➡ The Periodic Table and Organic Chemistry review.

Use Cognito YouTube videos for a clear topic-summary, and practice Past-Paper Questions! Check answers with mark scheme ✔ Complete the physical worksheet(s) as homework.

Well, 😐 Chemistry is probably very likely to be my LEAST favorite (and probably most hated) branch of science ever!! 💔 I do not like my Chemistry teacher at all, because I just feel as though I don’t really like his unusually dry and quick-witted humorous personality. Mixed in with his tendency to SPEED ⚡️ through all of the powerpoint slides, with valuable information 😩!!! Yeah, and so because of the pace he tries to teach at I feel like I cannot keep up, and his personality rapidly gets very boring to give my full attention towards, therefore I very much despise this subject (as the content itself doesn’t interest me either). I also get the feeling that, regular “practice” with specific exam-practice questions doesn’t really make any big differences in my understanding, but I could be wrong…

Physics ⚡️ (Oxford AQA Science)

Things to focus on: 🟠 - Energy, Electricity,  Particle Model of Matter, Forces & Waves… Just like for the other two sciences, use online tools like videos, and step-by-step guides!  ➡ Try to effectively use Past-Paper Questions ❗ then independently check answers with the right mark-scheme!

Okay, so Physics is really the branch of science that I sort of just tend to feel “neutral” towards 🤔! Like, I don’t really have any strong feelings of hate for it, and neither do I have any strong feelings of interest or confidence in the subject. I do get the impression that this subject is VERY maths-based, and as that is quite a big weakness of mine I think I would benefit in getting more practice for this area.

Psychology 🧠 (~Paper 1 Edexcel-98 marks)

Things to focus on: ⚪ Review Core Content - 1 Development, 2 Memory, 3 Psychological Problems, 4 The Brain & Neuropsychology, and 5 Social Influence! ➡ Use the materials from Teams ✔. Finish up writing notes from relevant textbook pages from 105-110. Effectively use past-paper questions, and properly CHECK answers with the appropriate mark-scheme.

French 🇫🇷 (Pearson Edexcel)

Things to focus on: ⚪ Watch YT videos or a Netflix series in French for effective “listening” practice 🗣!! Use subtitles as well for that. Practice WRITING longer (130-150 words) exercises, and straightforward reading comprehensions. ➡ Use physical Past-Papers & check answers properly.

ICT 💻 (Cambridge iGCSE)

Things to focus on: ⚪ Important! Homework is to complete at least 1 entire physical Past-Paper booklet, review theory content from Y10 ✔ Look for PRACTICAL revision through videos/websites. Check through the Cambridge specification if needed. Review/further develop the Word Doc: Y10 iGCSE ICT lesson notes. More Practice is quite necessary here!! 💪

Business Studies 💰 (Pearson Edexcel iGCSE)

Things to focus on: ⚪ Important! Homework has been set on Teams (it is quite intensive because there’s A LOT to get done). ➡ Refer to the “Past Papers and Revision” assignment for this (15-20 exam-questions should be done). ✔ Look over content covered from Y10, and “Market Research”. ➡ Use YouTube videos, and the physical folder with plenty of materials for revision…
