Introduction to Futur Proche in French
Introduction – Future Vision (5 minutes)
Total Time: 5 minutes
Begin the lesson by asking students to close their eyes and imagine their lives in 10 years. Prompt them with questions to guide their thoughts, such as: Where will you live? What will you do for work? What dreams will you have achieved? After 2 minutes of reflection, ask a few students to share their visions with the class. Write key verbs on the board (e.g., ‘travailler’, ‘voyager’, ‘étudier’) that will be useful for the next activity.
Core Activities – Futur Proche Interactive Challenge (10 minutes)
Total Time: 10 minutes
Divide the class into small groups of 3-4 students. Each group receives a card with different scenarios in the future (e.g., winning a competition, traveling overseas, or making a big purchase). Groups will create a short skit (2-3 minutes) using the structure of ‘aller + infinitive’ to describe their future actions. Encourage creativity: they can use props from the classroom. Each group performs their skit for the class. Their peers will guess the ‘aller + infinitive’ statements being used.
Assessment – Futur Proche Quiz (5 minutes)
Total Time: 5 minutes
To wrap up the lesson, conduct a quick formative assessment using a Kahoot! quiz or exit tickets. Questions can include translating sentences into the futur proche, identifying the correct verb form, and recognizing futur proche in sentences. This interactive method assesses their understanding while maintaining engagement.
