The Gunpowder Plot Storyboard

1 - When Elizabeth I died without children, her cousin king James of Scotland also became king of England

2 - Although James was Protestant, his mother Mary had been Catholic, this led the Catholics of England to hope for fair treatment

3 - James though continued to fine Catholics who refused to attend church

4 - A Catholic leader Robert Catesby hired Guy Fawkes to kill the new king

5 - One of the Catholic plotters sent a letter to Lord Monteagle warning him not to attend Parliament on 5th November

6 - Lord Monteagle passed on the letter the letter to the king who ordered parliament to be searched

7 - on the night of the 5th November Guy Fawkes was discovered under Parliament with barrels on gunpowder

8 - Guy Fawkes was executed and people remember this by burning a guy every 5th November
