Purpose of Tables
- Tables organize large amounts of information into an easy-to-read format.
- Allow quick comparison of data that would be cumbersome in prose form.
Example: Bicycle Ownership Data
- Ordinary bikes: 16 pupils
- Mountain bikes: 9 pupils
- Racing bikes: 5 pupils
- No bike: 4 pupils
Creating Results Tables for Experiments
- Draw the table before starting the practical.
- Clearly label columns/rows with the variables to be measured (e.g., amount of sugar, time to dissolve).
- Leave enough space to record all observations.
Investigating Multiple Variables
- When testing more than one factor (e.g., sugar dissolving in hot vs. cold water), include separate columns or sections for each condition.
- Ensure headings specify each variable to avoid confusion during data entry.
Good Practice Checklist
- Use concise headings.
- Keep units consistent and noted in column titles.
- Double-check that every measurement has a designated cell.
- Record data immediately to prevent loss or error.
