Purpose of Tables

  • Tables organize large amounts of information into an easy-to-read format.
  • Allow quick comparison of data that would be cumbersome in prose form.

Example: Bicycle Ownership Data

  • Ordinary bikes: 1616 pupils
  • Mountain bikes: 99 pupils
  • Racing bikes: 55 pupils
  • No bike: 44 pupils

Creating Results Tables for Experiments

  • Draw the table before starting the practical.
  • Clearly label columns/rows with the variables to be measured (e.g., amount of sugar, time to dissolve).
  • Leave enough space to record all observations.

Investigating Multiple Variables

  • When testing more than one factor (e.g., sugar dissolving in hot vs. cold water), include separate columns or sections for each condition.
  • Ensure headings specify each variable to avoid confusion during data entry.

Good Practice Checklist

  • Use concise headings.
  • Keep units consistent and noted in column titles.
  • Double-check that every measurement has a designated cell.
  • Record data immediately to prevent loss or error.
