Put on Love
Colosians 3:12-17
We are called to be one
Because of our Baptism, we belong to the Body of Christ the church and all the members are our friends in christ. We Worship God, offer together the sacrifice of Calvary, and enter into the Paschal Mystery (Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection). Our life as Catholics comes from the Eucharist and leads to the Eucharist.
All of this is done by the work of the Holy spirit
Holy spirit- the spirit of Jesus bringing you closer to himself.
When you offer to the Father your joys, sorrows, successes, and failures. Spirit works in a community that is gathered to receive eucharist.
Parts of the Mass
You know the parts of the Mass: Introductory Rite, Liturgy of the Word, Liturgy of the Eucharist, and the Concluding Rite.
The liturgy of the word and the liturgy of the eucharist two main parts. In the liturgy of the word- you are united with other members of God’s family in God’s and jesus’ words and stories.
Liturgy of the Eucharist- you are united with Jeus and his sacrifice, God unites himself to you and others.
The Eucharist nourishes you to live out the word of God
When things go wrong
Because our Church is human it is capable of Sin. Sin is when we deliberately turn away from God 2 types of Sin:
Mortal Sin - which breaks our relationship with God, and must be confessed in the Sacrament of Penance. Mortal sins are sins that we commit when we do something that is seriously wrong, we know it is seriously wrong, and we freely and willingly choose to do it anyway.
Venial Sin- a less serious offense that weakens a relationship with God. When we are repentant, we can be forgiven by prayer, good actions, and receiving the Eucharist but it is recommended that you confess Venial sins in the Sacrament of Penance also.
Absolution- our sins are forgiven. Priest is bound by the seal of Confession never to reveal what anyone confesses.
The rite of confirmation
Confirmation celebrates the gift of the spirit that you received in Baptism
To be confirmed you must profess your faith, be in the state of grace, and want to receive the sacrament.
The rite of confirmation includes 5 parts : the presentation of the candidates, homily, renewal of baptismal promises, laying on of hands and anointing with chrism, and general intercessions(Petitions)
A plan for spiritual growth
12 fruits:
Love- is shown in selfless service to others by your words and actions.
Faithfulness- is shown by showing loyalty to God and those to whom you have committed yourself-you will be dependable, trustworthy, and obedient
Joy- deep and constant gladness in the Lord that circumstances cannot destroy
Modesty- moderation in all actions, especially your conversation and external behavior give credit to God for your talent and success.
Kindness- shown by generous acts of services, you also see the best in others.
Goodness- This flows from God’s great love. It is a sign that you love all people without exception and do good to them
Peace- this is being serene- not overly anxious or upset it comes from knowing it will all work out well because God is with us.
Patience- love that is willing to endure life's suffering, difficulties, and routine, not giving up in difficult situations
Self control- You are in charge of your emotions and desires instead of letting others or society control them.
Chasity- the interaction of your physical sexuality with your spiritual nature all people are called to practice chastity.
