Cell Cycle (Mitosis Checkpoints)
- G1 checkpoint:
- Cell size
- Nutrients
- Growth Factors
- DNA damage
- G2 checkpoint:
- DNA damage
- DNA replication completeness
- Metaphase/Spindle checkpoint:
- Chromosome attachment to the spindle at the metaphase plate
If mistakes are found…
- G1: the cell is put into the resting(G0) stage
- G2: The cell cycle halts. The cell tries to complete DNA replication or repair the damaged DNA, and if it doesn't work, the cell self-explodes(apoptosis)
- Metaphase/Spindle Checkpoint: Mitosis will pause so that the spindles can attach to the loose chromosomes
