Cell Cycle (Mitosis Checkpoints)

  • G1 checkpoint:
    • Cell size
    • Nutrients
    • Growth Factors
    • DNA damage
  • G2 checkpoint:
    • DNA damage
    • DNA replication completeness
  • Metaphase/Spindle checkpoint:
    • Chromosome attachment to the spindle at the metaphase plate

If mistakes are found…

  • G1: the cell is put into the resting(G0) stage
  • G2: The cell cycle halts. The cell tries to complete DNA replication or repair the damaged DNA, and if it doesn't work, the cell self-explodes(apoptosis)
  • Metaphase/Spindle Checkpoint: Mitosis will pause so that the spindles can attach to the loose chromosomes
