Mock Interview

Intro

"Hi everyone. My name is Yuyuka Nagai, and I'm currently a junior Journalism major at Temple University. My journey into storytelling actually began on the other side of the continent at the University of British Columbia, and that international experience—coupled with being bilingual in Japanese and English—has given me a unique lens through which to view the world.

But my real-world education didn't stop in the classroom. Working part-time in the fast-paced environments of restaurants and a hotel taught me invaluable lessons in communication, grace under pressure, and how to connect with people from all walks of life. It’s these skills—the ability to listen, adapt, and communicate clearly across cultures—that I'm now excited to apply to the world of journalism and media. I'm passionate about finding the human story within complex issues and can't wait to bring that perspective to a dynamic team."

Who I am

"My story is really about connecting with stories and the people behind them, which is why I'm so drawn to the media and entertainment industry.

On a personal level, my passion is music. Being bilingual, I actively analyze the music scenes in both Japan and the West, and I'm fascinated by what makes an artist resonate globally. I don't just listen—I immerse myself. In fact, I went to 17 live shows in just three months last year to understand the magic of a live performance and the connection between an artist and their fans.

Parallel to this, for over ten years, I've been a caregiver for my grandmother. That experience taught me profound lessons in patience, empathy, and dedicated focus—managing complex situations with calmness and understanding someone's needs, even when they aren't verbally expressed.

Now, as a Journalism student at Temple University, I'm merging these two sides of myself. I'm building the professional skills to find and tell compelling stories. I believe my unique perspective—the cultural fluency of a global music fan, the resilience learned in caregiving, and the narrative toolkit from my studies—is a powerful combination. I'm excited by the prospect of bringing that empathy, patience, and passion to a company like Sony Music, to help manage artist relations, develop authentic marketing campaigns, or create content that truly honors an artist's vision and connects deeply with fans."
