Child Proofing the Home
\ Look around the house at the level of a child. Is there a potential hazard you can see?
Choking Hazards
Small objects that can be put into the mouth are choking hazards. It is easy for a child to accidentally ingest or choke on one of these.
It is very easy to child-proof choking hazards: just pick them up and put them out of a child’s reach.
Electrical Hazards
Any metallic object, like a coin, next to an outlet can be pushed into the outlet, which poses an electrocution risk.
Picking up these hazards or covering the outlets themselves with plastic plugs can help prevent electrocution.
Coffee and Hot Water
It is not a good idea to leave hot liquids on a table at the level of a child. A child may be able to pull it off the table and scald themselves.
Putting the liquid higher up out of reach can prevent this.
Stairs
Stairs pose a fall hazard.
Toys left on the stairs can cause one to trip and fall; this is a hazard for not only children, but for adults as well.
Keep the door to the stairs closed, or use a safety gate.
