Physical/Chemical Properties
Every substance has unique properties that allows us to identify it. As with the two types of changes, the two types of properties are physical and chemical as well.
PHYSICAL PROPERTIES:
Characteristics that can be determined without a chemical reaction and that do not cause a chemical change in the substance.
Examples include: Color, Solubility, Odor, Density (weight), Melting Point, Boiling Point, Hardness, Glossiness
CHEMICAL PROPERTIES:
Characteristics that can be determined only by a chemical reaction and a chemical change in the substance.
Examples include: Burning wood, Hair lightening (through the use of hair color and hydrogen peroxide), and Rusting (the ability of iron to rust).
