Acids

  • ionise in water

  • give off Hydrogen 1+

  • most compounds that begin with "H" are acids

What is an acid?

A chemical dissolved in water is aqueous. This splits up the compound

All of these are aqueous (except H2O, because it's already the liquid in question - water)

HCl ➝ H+ & Cl-

H2O ➝ H+ & OH-

H X - X would be an anion

  1. HCl

    1. ChlorideHydrochloric Acid

  2. HNO2

    1. Nitrite ➝ Nitrous Acid

  3. HNO3

    1. Nitrate ➝ Nitric Acid

  4. H2SO4

    1. Sulfate ➝ Sulfuric Acid

    2. sometimes the name changes a little. deal with it (if it sounds natural it's probably fine)
