Light and Optics Notes
Objects & Light:
Transparent: Light passes through enabling clear vision. Examples: glass, air. High light transmission.
Translucent: Allows some light through but scatters it, causing blurry vision. Examples: frosted glass.
Opaque: Blocks light entirely; light is either reflected or absorbed. Examples: wood, metal.
Reflection:
Regular: Occurs on smooth surfaces, creating clear reflection and images.
Diffuse: Occurs on rough surfaces, light scatters in many directions.
Mirrors:
Convex: Bulges outward, offers a wider field of view, virtual/upright/diminished images. Used in car side mirrors.
Concave: Curves inward, focuses light, image depends on the object's distance.
Far objects: forms Real, inverted, and smaller images.
Close objects: forms Virtual, upright, and magnified images. Used in telescopes, and makeup mirrors.
Lenses:
Convex: Thicker in the middle,
