SOCORRO RAMOS

  • A well-known entrepreneur from the Philippines and the creator of National Book Store, the country's biggest chain of book stores.

  • When Socorro Ramos was 18 years old, she worked as a salesgirl at a bookshop and began her career in publishing and retail. She was employed by Jose Ramos, her brother-in-law and operator of the Ramos Goodwill Bookstore

LANCE GOKONGWEI

  • Lance Gokongwei is the only son of the late John Gokongwei Jr. who founded JG Summit, one of Philippines' largest conglomerates.

  • He now serves as chief executive of the company, which spans interests in airlines, telecom, banking, food, power and property.

  • He also has a stake in Robinsons Retail, one of Philippines' largest retailers, which was started by his father as a department store in 1980.

  • Gokongwei got his start selling Jack 'n Jill snacks to supermarkets and sari-sari stores in the Philippines.

TONY TAN CAKTIONG

  • Tony Tan Caktiong is the founder and chairman of Jollibee Food, one of the world's fastest-growing Asian restaurant chains.

  • Jollibee operates more than 3,200 eateries in the Philippines and more than 2,700 stores overseas.

  • Jollibee sells Filipino, Chinese, American and European dishes adapted to a quick-serve and affordable format

MARIANO QUE

  • Mercury Drug has been synonymous with quality pharmaceuticals and it owes its success to one man who recently left us: its founder, the late Mariano Que.

  • P100. That was all Mariano Que had in his pocket after World War II. An employee of a drugstore prior to the war, Que knew that Filipinos would need the “miracle” drug sulfathiazole, believed to cure many (if not all) sorts of diseases and illnesses.

  • Mercury Drug is still at the forefront of Philippine pharmaceutical services, with over 1,000 stores nationwide.

BEN CHAN

  • Chinese- Filipino entrepreneur who is the founder of Philippines largest clothing chain- BENCH.

  • In 1987, Ben Chan started a small t-shirt shop at the SM Department Store in Makati.

  • Bench, which now has a Bench Café in partnership with FooDee Global Concepts, has also brought exciting global food concepts to the Philippines like Paul Boulangerie, Maisen, St. Marc Café, Patchi Chocolates, Pablo Desserts.

Visionary - As a good leader, he must possess a clear and concise vision for the purpose and direction of his business organization.

Decisive - An entrepreneur may not be endowed with instinct but must possess the ability to make educated decisions

Adaptable and flexible - An entrepreneur must be able to adapt and adjust the changes in the marketplace, products and trends, technology, and marketing strategies.

Possesses integrity - As an entrepreneur and leader, it is important that one has “palabra de honor” (word of honor). “Keep your word!”

Honest and fair-minded - To maintain successful teams, playing favorites is extremely discouraged and instead allow everyone to do his fair share and excel in their own ways.
