United by one or more specific traits
- economic (Like the Euro in Europe)
- social (like the Islamic world ((distribution o Muslim adherents is primarily clustered in SW and C Asia)) or the bible belt in the USA)
- political (States and capitals in Europe)
- environmental (Sahara desert)
- Functional R4egion - organized around a central node (focal point) and the relationship is typically based around econ, travel or communication
A perceptual/vernacular region
Vernacular/ Perceptual region is based on a person’s perspective or perception of a certain location
- Informal
- Sense of place & cultural identity
- Boundaries vary widely bc ppl have a diff sense o what defines and unites these regions
