Definition of Digital Literacy
  • Digital literacy should be understood to mean the basic skills or abilities to use a computer confidently, safely, and effectively, including:

    • The ability to use office software such as word processors, email, and presentation software.

    • The ability to create and edit images, audio, and video.

    • The ability to use a web browser and Internet search engines.

Beyond Basic Skills
  • Digital literacy should not be solely seen as a collection of basic computer skills.

  • Associating digital literacy with merely basic skills is akin to defining literacy as just the ability to read and write; while reading and writing are parts of literacy, the concept encompasses much more.

Goals of Digital Literacy Education
  • The aim is to equip students with 21st-century competencies necessary for:

    • Accessing learning opportunities.

    • Pursuing careers and leisure interests.

    • Contributing to society as active citizens.
