Active voice- the subject performs the action e.g. Die Katze frisst den Fisch (the cat eats the fish)

Passive voice- The grammatical subject is the receiver of the action. e.g. Der Fisch wird (von der Katze) gegessen (the fish is eaten (by the cat))- use werde and the past participle
