Health-care Team

  • Health care providers (Doctors): Responsible for diagnosing and treating illnesses/diseases.
  • Nursing staff: Practices nursing within a defined scope under the direction of a physician (LPN/LVN, RNs).
  • CNAs: Work under the direction of a physician (LPN/LVN, RNs).
  • Therapy Staff: Evaluates, treats, and cares for patients with breathing problems. Some work under the supervision of a Respiratory Therapist (RT). Also, they improve or restore swallow and speech functions.
  • Staff members: Assist patients with disabilities to develop, recover, or maintain their skills and mobility.
  • Laboratory Staff: Includes medical doctors who examine blood tissues and blood samples. Phlebotomists are also part of this staff.
  • Radiology Staff: Medical doctors who specialize in X-rays and radiographs, utilizing ultrasound machines. Technicians can assist.
  • Ancillary Staff:
    • Pharmacists: Distribute prescription drugs/medication.
    • Can also develop special dietary needs.
    • Provide support to families and patients.
    • Can provide spiritual care for patients.
    • Includes social workers, dietary staff, and pharmacy technicians.

Levels of Care Inpatient Setting

  • Acute Care Hospital: Provides emergency care, surgeries, inpatient care, diagnostic testing, and possibly outpatient care as well.
