Hardening occurs as chondrocytes die; osteoblasts then remodel the area into bone.

Appositional Growth: Growth in width.
Interstitial Growth: Growth in length.
Growth Plate Parts:
Reserve Zone: Normal cartilage.
Proliferative Zone: Mitosis of chondrocytes.
