Ares was not liked by his father Zeus.  After battles, he would go home to Mount Olympus to heal using a special ointment.  He was good friends with Eris, the goddess of strife.  Aphrodite admired his beauty.  Ares loved Aphrodite even though she was married to Hephaestus, they still had children together.
