Component 1 exam paper - what to expect
You will expect to receive two sections in the exam. Section A and section B.
[[Section A[[
You will be expected to analyse media language and representation in the following forms: magazines, newspapers, marketing (film posters) or print advertisements.
There will be two questions in this section
Question 1: Assessing media language in relation to one set product.
Question 2: a two part question assessing representation in relation to one set product and one unseen resource in the same media form.
Part A is based on media context (it will assess knowledge and understanding context in relation to one set product
and
part B requires comparison of an unseen resource with a set product in the same media form. You should be spending approximately 55 mins in this section (since this section is 55 marks), including 10 mins to study the print based resource on this section.

]]Section B]]
This section will assess knowledge and understanding of media industries and audiences in relation to any of the four forms studied in this section: video games, radio, newspapers and tv.
Question 3: a stepped question assessing knowledge and understanding of media industries in relation to one form studied.
Question 4: a stepped question assessing knowledge and understanding of audiences in relation to a different media form from that assessed in question 3.
You should be spending approximately 35 mins on this section since it is
35 marks.

^^Advice:^^
In the exam, work out what time is 35 mins at the end of the assessment. Make a note of the time that you have to move onto section B, regardless of whether section a is done or not. If you overwhelm section a, you might potentially miss out the 10 - 12 mark question at the end of section b which decreases your GCSE grade by 1 or even 2!
