Phagocytes

Phagocyte structure:
The plasma membrane allows the phagocyte to form new shapes in order to engulf and digest pathogens, due to its flexible structure.
The nucleus contains genetic material and regulates processes like cell division.
The cytoplasm supports the cells structure and it is what extends in order to engulf the pathogens.
The food particle in this diagram represents a pathogen like bacteria that the phagocytes would engulf in digest to reduce the waste particles in the blood stream.
The lysosomes contain several types of enzyme to breakdown the waste and debris in the phagocyte.
