Endoplasmic Reticulum

The ER is the internal transport system in the cell.  It is able to move products around the cell to where they are needed.  Its large surface provides the surface area for many chemical reactions. The ER is continuous with the nuclear envelope and associated with the Golgi apparatus.

The Golgi Apparatus

The Golgi apparatus can be thought of as the packing plant of the cell as this is where substances that are to be moved out of the cell are wrapped in plasma membrane forming vesicles.  It stands to reason that secretory cells have many Golgi apparatus.

Lysosomes

The strong digestive enzymes are used to digest waste materials and food within the cell, breaking down molecules into their base components.  The enzymes are produced close to the ER, move through the ER and are packaged by the Golgi apparatus.

Ribosomes

They are important in protein synthesis, including the manufacture of enzymes. Each ribosome is made up of two subunits; one large and one small.

Centrioles

Centrioles are involved in the process of cell division.
