About IPOPHL

  • The Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) is the lead agency mandated to implement state policies on Intellectual Property to strengthen the protection of Intellectual Property Rights in the country.

What is Intellectual Property (IP)?

Key Concepts

  • First-to-File Rule: The first person/entity to file an IP application gets the rights, regardless of who used or created it first.

  • Territorial Protection: IP protection is only valid in the country where registration is obtained.
