Sustainability and stewardship

Unit 2

Sustainability and stewardship

Sustain: keeping something→(Economy, planet, people) 1- planet, 2- people, 3- profit going forever

Ability: carrying out a task → action ( actually doing something)

              Working

Vs Awareness: education → to be useful it must lead to action

Steward: Leadership/ responsibility, Taking care of something

Ship: Connection → makes it an action

you can not have sustainability without stewardship

Anthroposcene

Anthro: people

posecne : portion of time in the history of the earth

A time where people are having the largest sustained impact on the earth.

Started in 1900’s - today the end will be the end of the human race as we know it!!!

Humans need the earth to surive, the earth doesn’t need humans.

Equlibrium: carrying capacity if you stray below it the human race will survive and the planet will regenerate itself.

Overshoot: where consumption is so high the panet can not regenerate.

In the past- consumption is decently tied to population growth. → because they studied insects/ animals ( only take what they need)

Canada operates in overshoot, because we take teh share of poor countires resources→ by making rules and laws to ensure we win!!

The Main Idea ( three keys’s = people plant, profit)

sustainability means keeping the planet, people, and economy in balance, with a focus on the environment and people first.

Stewardship is about taking responsibility for carrying out a task. You can’t have sustainability without stewardship.

*Anthropocene, a time when humans are having a huge impact on the planet, starting in the 1900s. If we consume too much, we go into overshoot, where the planet can't regenerate.

The main message is that we need to act responsibly and move from awareness to real action to protect the Earth and ensure a sustainable future.
