Comprehensive Technical Analysis and Assessment of the Gateway Process
Tasking and Research Methodology for the Gateway Assessment
Wayne M. McDonnell, LTC, MI, Commander of US Army Operational Group, submitted this assessment on to the Commander of US Army Operational Group at Fort Meade, MD.
The primary objective was to assess the Gateway Experience in terms of its mechanics and ultimate practicality for US Army personnel.
Supporting research and analysis involved delving into multiple disciplines to construct a scientifically valid model of consciousness:
Biomedical models developed by Itzhak Bentov were used to understand the physical aspects of the process.
Quantum mechanics was explored to describe the nature and functioning of human consciousness.
Theoretical physics was utilized to explain the time-space dimension and how expanded consciousness transcends it.
Out-of-body states were analyzed using the language of physical science to remove occult connotations and create an objective frame of reference.
Conceptualizations in the physics of altered human consciousness are not easily grasped through ordinary "left brain" linear thinking; they require right-brain intuitive insight to achieve a complete grasp.
The conclusions of the study are intended to be consistent with both Eastern and Western mainstream belief systems to avoid rejection based on perceived alien concepts.
Comparative Analysis of Consciousness-Altering Techniques
Hypnosis:
Theory suggests it is a technique allowing direct access to the sensory-motor cortex and pleasure centers of the right brain.
It operates by successful disengagement of the stimulus screening function of the left hemisphere.
The left hemisphere is characterized as self-cognitive, verbal, and linear, acting as a filter for incoming stimuli.
The right hemisphere is non-critical, holistic, non-verbal, and pattern-oriented. It accepts screened information without question.
Distracting the left brain through boredom or a semi-sleep state allows suggestions to reach the right hemisphere unchallenged. For example, a suggestion of numbness in the left leg causes an electrical reaction in the right sensory cortex at the corresponding "homunculus" point.
Hypnosis can access unused information storage capacity held in reserve by left hemisphere control processes.
Transcendental Meditation (TM):
Operates through intense concentration on drawing energy up the spinal cord.
Prolonged practice ( or more years) creates acoustical standing waves in the cerebral ventricles, which eventually "polarize" the cortex.
This polarization conducts signals along the homunculus, starting from the toes upward, often causing self-stimulation of pleasure centers (the Kundalini effect).
Bentov states that mechanical vibrations in the range (e.g., from car suspensions or air conditioning ducts) can trigger a spontaneous physio-Kundalini sequence in sensitive individuals.
Biofeedback:
Unique in using the self-cognitive powers of the left hemisphere to gain access to the right brain.
The left brain is taught to visualize a desired result and recognize associated feelings.
External monitoring devices, such as digital thermometers, provide objective affirmation. If a subject tries to increase blood flow in a leg, they monitor the temperature; once successful, the left brain associates the feeling with the result to strengthen the neural pathway.
It can suppress malignant tumors, block pain, and accelerate achievement of deep meditative states by displaying brainwave patterns on cathode ray tubes.
The Hemi-Sync Technique and the Frequency Following Response
The Gateway Experience uses "Hemi-Sync" (brain hemisphere synchronization), a state where the EEG patterns of both hemispheres are simultaneously equal in amplitude and frequency.
Elmer and Alyce Greene at the Menninger Foundation showed that Zen meditators with years of training could sustain Hemi-Sync at will for over .
Frequency Following Response (FFR):
The brain adjusts its brainwave output to mimic an external sound frequency. If a subject hears sounds approximating the Theta level (), the brain shifts from Beta to Theta.
Since these frequencies are below the audible spectrum, Hemi-Sync uses "beat frequencies." A subject hears one frequency in the left ear and another in the right ear ( difference); the brain then "hears" the delta frequency via a subliminal "beat."
Laser vs. Lamp Analogy:
Ordinary consciousness is like a lamp: chaotic, incoherent energy that diffuses over a wide area with limited depth.
Hemi-Sync consciousness acts like a laser beam: a disciplined stream of light with total coherence of frequency and amplitude. A laser beam contains billions of times the concentrated energy of a similar surface area on the sun.
Coherent brainwaves accelerate to higher vibrational levels, allowing the mind to synchronize with rarified energy levels in the universe.
Biomedical Factors: Resonance and Brain Stimulation
Bifurcation Echo:
When the heart's left ventricle ejects blood, the aorta balloons. The pressure pulse travels down to the bifurcation in the lower abdomen (where the aorta forks).
A portion of the pulse rebounds. If a new pulse is traveling down, they collide, creating an interference pattern.
Deep relaxation in Gateway eliminates this echo, allowing the heartbeat to move synchronously in harmonious resonance approximately times a second.
Body as a Tuned System:
The resulting sine wave in the circulatory system vibrates the brain within the dura membrane, moving it up and down to .
The entire body becomes a tuned vibrational system transferring energy between and into the earth's ionospheric cavity.
The ionosphere itself resonates at . The 40,000 km wavelength of this signal allows it to travel around the world in about of a second.
This electromagnetic medium is considered the ideal medium for conveying telepathic signals.
The Physics of Consciousness and the Holographic Universe
Energy and Matter:
Solid matter does not exist; atomic structure is composed of oscillating energy grids in orbiting motion.
Nucleus vibration: approximately .
Atom vibration at : .
Live human cell vibration: approximately .
Holography:
Holograms store information three-dimensionally by interacting moving energy with energy at rest to create interference patterns.
Dennis Gabor worked out the mathematical principles of the hologram in (Nobel Prize winner).
Every individual piece of a broken hologram contains the entire image, though smaller pieces are fuzzier.
The Consciousness Matrix:
The universe is one gigantic hologram of unbelievable complexity.
Pribram and Bohm posit the human mind is a hologram that attunes to the universal hologram via energy exchange.
Consciousness works on a binary "go/no go" system (like a digital computer) to compare holographic input with stored memories (geometric/frequency differences).
Humans possess self-cognition—the ability to know that they know—by duplicating aspects of their own hologram and projecting them for internal comparison.
Transcending Time-Space and the Planck Distance
Time and Space:
Time is the measurement of energy in motion (change).
Space is the confinement of energy to a specific location.
Energy in infinity (The Absolute) has no limits, no dimension, no location, and is outside of time.
The Planck Distance Threshold:
Every oscillation has two points of rest. When energy reaches these points, it "clicks out" of time-space and joins infinity.
This occurs when the distance of oscillation drops below Planck's Distance: .
High-frequency consciousness patterns create virtual continuity of these "click-outs," allowing a portion of consciousness to gather information between time-space and the Absolute.
Subatomic Particles:
Entrained subatomic particles communicate instantaneously across the universe during the click-out phase.
This violates relativity's ban on faster-than-light velocities because it occurs outside the time-space dimension.
Hypothetical "tachyons" move at speeds higher than light, ranging toward infinite velocities.
The Torus Model and the Evolution of the Cosmic Egg
The universal hologram is shaped like a "Torus" or a self-contained spiral (Cosmic Egg).
The Big Bang and Quasars:
Taking cues from quasars ejecting matter, Bentov envisages matter ejected from a nucleus through a "white hole."
Matter travels along the shell of the ovoid and returns through a "black hole" to be reabsorbed.
Time counts the cadence of this evolution around the shell.
Simultaneous Reality:
Since matter in all phases of time generates the Torus simultaneously, it reflects past, present, and future at once.
Galaxies to the North move away faster because they are in the downturn toward the black hole.
Consciousness outside time-space can perceive the future because the consequences of past and present exist simultaneously in the hologram.
Gateway Training Techniques and Focus Levels
Preparatory Process:
Energy Conversion Box: Visualizing a container to isolate extraneous concerns.
Resonant Tuning: Protracted humming to align the body's vibration.
Gateway Affirmation: A statement realizing one is more than a physical body.
Focus 10: State of physical sleep with a wakeful mind.
Focus 12 (Expanded Awareness):
Technique I: Problem Solving. Projecting a problem to the "higher self" (interacts with the universal hologram). Insights often arrive as holistic intuition or symbols.
Technique II: Patterning. Projecting specific physical/intellectual goals with the intention that they are already achieved. Consciousness, being the source of reality, reorients the time-space sphere.
Technique III: Color Breathing. Using colors to resonate with the body's energy for healing. Intense blue reduces tumescence (swelling); red/yellow increase it.
Technique IV: Energy Bar Tool. Envisaging a pulsating DOT of light extruded into a vibrating cylinder to channel universal force for healing.
Technique V: Remote Viewing. Turning the energy bar into a whirling vortex for the imagination to travel through.
Technique VI: Living Body Map. Applying colored energy flows to internal organ systems within a visualization of the body.
Advanced Levels:
Focus 15: Travel into the past. Visualized as a wheel with spokes. Achieved by less than 5\,\text{%} of participants in the seven-day course.
Focus 21: Travel into the future. Requires months or years of practice with Hemi-Sync tapes.
Dynamics of the Out-of-Body State
Out-of-body movement is a major focus for information collection.
Bob Monroe uses Beta signals at to assist in separation (normal Beta is to ).
Techniques for Separation:
Rolling out.
Lifting out (like a telephone pole, standing at the foot of the body).
Sliding out through either end of the body.
Role of REM Sleep:
Rapid Eye Movement (REM) involves motor cortex disengagement and left brain suppression.
Conditioning people to use Hemi-Sync in REM sleep may assist in remembering naturally occurring out-of-body movements.
Information Collection and Distortion:
Experiments with digit computer-generated numbers resulted in participants getting some, but never all, digits correctly.
Distortion occurs because consciousness may encounter past energy patterns at physical sites, or independent thought forms.
Holograms may also be viewed pseudoscopically (inside out or backwards).
Philosophical and Operational Recommendations
Synthesis with Religion:
The Absolute at rest fits the concept of the Father in Hebrew/Christian metaphysics.
The Son corresponds to the infinite self-consciousness/universal hologram projected by the Absolute.
The Holy Spirit corresponds to the eternal thought or concept resulting from this self-consciousness.
Hindu concepts of Indra's pearls and Tibetan Buddhist concepts of movement-constituted objects align with holographic theory.
Operational Recommendations (Steps A-L):
Use a phased approach: Hemi-Sync followed by REM frequencies and hypnotic suggestion for focus.
Practice "multi-focus" data collection: One person viewing the target in the present, one at Focus 15 (past), and one at Focus 21 (future), with a debriefing comparison.
Group participants in Focus 12 to build protective holographic patterns around sensitive areas.
Prepare for interaction with non-corporal energy forms when boundaries are exceeded.
