Bio - Animal Behavior

Animal Behavior is defined as all the ways animals interact with other organisms & the physical environment.

A stimulus is an internal or external cue or combination of cues.

Innate - genetically hardwired

Learned - developed through experience

To understand behavior, you want to know cause, how it develops & how it evolved.

Behavior is shaped by natural selection, it’s likely to be passed on if it helps an animal survive and/or reproduce.

Behavior is defined as change in activity of organism in response to stimulus.

Behavior Biology - study of evolutionary & biological bases for behavior

Ethology - field of biology that focuses on behaviors of organisms in their natural environment

4 main aspects of behavior - Cause, Development, function/adaptive value, Phylogeny(how it evolved)

Behavior can be triggered by external or internal cues, sometimes both

Behaviors are innate, learned, or mix of both(innate but specifics are determined by environment)

Behaviors that aid an organism in survival or mating are more common because of natural selection
