STS (African Intellectual Revolutions) 

       Africa has the world's oldest record of human technological achievement.

·        Oldest stones tools have been found in Eastern Africa and later evidence for two production by our hominin ancestors has been found across sub-Saharan Africa.

Lebombo Bone.

·        Discovered in the Lebombo Mountains of Swaziland and dated to approximately 35,000 BC.

·        Oldest known possibly mathematical object.

·        Over 35,000 years ago, ancient Egyptian scripted textbooks about math that included division and multiplication of fractions and geometric formulas to calculate the area and volumes of shapes.

Cat Scan Machine.

·        Invented by a South African called Allan Cormack.

o    However, the idea was developed and made commercial in the United Kingdom.

Cyber Tracker

·        Louis Liebenberg. Spent time with the San people and was urged to assist the traditional hunter gatherers in preserving their knowledge and innate tracking abilities through the help of technology.

·        Developed which enables trackers to get jobs in ecotourism as rangers in an anti-poaching unit.

·        Icon based UI. Enables non-literate trackers to record complex georeferencing and animal behavior observations.

·        Invention has become a keystone in job creation for indigenous African communities, and crucial in anti-poaching and conservation initiatives throughout the world.

Cardio Pad

·        Invented by a Cameroonian entrepreneur called Marc Arthur.

·        The very first touch screen medical tablet invented and made in Africa.

·        Computer tablet that is used for heart examinations. The gadget allows such examinations as electrocardiograms to be conducted in rural and inaccessible locations.

Quiet Cellular Antenna

·        Paul van Jaarsveld and Gordon Mayo invented the quiet cellular antenna.

·        Has a square kilometer array plan that reduces noisy cellular emissions from base stations used by cellular companies.

·        Based on one phased array principle that blocks radio frequency transmissions along a given direction, and also provide omnidirectional coverage.

Charging Shoes

·        Invented by Anthony Mutwa, a graduate of Mombasa Polytechnic University College,

o    Developed an ultra-thin chip of crystals that would generate electricity when you put under pressure.

·        Electricity is generated by the act of walking and running, and can be harvested in two ways.

o    Charge the phone while still in motion, through a thin extension cable that runs from the shoe to the pocket.

o    Charge the phone immediately after a walk.

Ashifi Gogo

·        Pioneered in 2009 by Ashif Gogol, a Ghanaian student and founder of Sproxil,

·        To fight counterfeit drugs

·        Users simply text code on medicine containers to a free number to confirm authenticity.

Hippo Water Roller

·        invented in 1991 by the two South Africans, Mr. Pettie Petzer and Johan Jonker.

Carbon Steel

·        Invented by the higher people in what is now Tanzania, starting about 180 centuries before carbon steel was subsequently made in Central Europe.

·        Archaeologist Peter Smith. Discovered through a literalist combination of archaeology and oral tradition, that the Haya people had been forging steel for around 2000 years.

Medicine

·        The earliest known surgery was performed in Egypt around 2750 BC.

·        Medical procedures were performed in ancient Africa before they were ever performed in Europe:

o    Vaccination, autopsy, limb traction and broken bone setting, bullet removal, brain surgery, skin grafting, filling of dental cavities, installation of false teeth, what is known today as caesarean sections, anesthesia, and tissue cauterization.

·        Ancient Black Egyptians invented a concrete system of medicine that involved cooling for practitioners and written documentation of the methods of healing used.
