Subject Pronouns

Yo - I Nosotros/as - We
Tu - You (informal)  Vosotros/as - Yall (in Spain) 
Usted - You (formal) Ustedes - You all (plural, formal) 
El - HeEllos - They (male or mixed) 
Ella - She Ellas - They (female) 
  • Both tu and usted are used when speaking directly to someone. You use tu in casual situations (like talking to a friend), and usted when talking in a formal situation (like with a parent or teacher). 

  • You use ustedes when speaking to a group of people, like how we use “you all”. 

  • A teacher may use ustedes to address their class.
