Socio-Cultural Approach

Learning Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to identify the characteristics of the socio-cultural approach which studies ethnicity, nationality, and even social differences from one community to another.

Psychological perspectivesare the different ways of viewing behavior. Psychologists using thesocio-cultural approachsee behavior as resulting from the effects of the surrounding society and culture.

The socio-cultural perspective examines how race, nationality, religion, ethnicity, etc. play a part in how someone behaves. How do we differ in our behavior as people from different social contexts?

Socio-cultural psychologists may also want to know why people behave differently in groups than they do when alone.

If the psychological perspectives were represented by a hand, the socio-cultural perspective would be the palm of the hand because it incorporates and joins many different components
(like components ofsocietyandculture).
