  • Distinguishing Features between Tools:
    • With the selection tool, visual attributes of objects are selected.
    • The direct selection tool shows anchor points and control handles for curve manipulation.

Making Simultaneous Selections

  • Select Similar Objects:
    • Click on an object and use the control strip icon to select based on fill or stroke color.
  • Magic Wand Tool (Y):
    • Taps into a panel allowing selection based on attributes. Users can adjust tolerance settings to select varying degrees of similarity.

    • Saves time by allowing users to select often-complicated artwork without reselecting attributes (e.g., select the same object properties).

Transformation Tools in Illustrator

  • Basic Movement:
    • Move objects using the selection tool or by dragging.
    • Dialog box for precise movement: Access via the return key to input exact XY coordinates.
    • Hold Alt/Option while moving to create a copy during the move.

    • Random checkbox option introduces unpredictable variations to common transformations.

Free Transform and Puppet Warp Tool

  • Free Transform Tool (E):
    • Provides a heads-up display for easy transforms including skewing and scaling.
  • Puppet Warp Tool:
    • Provides mesh to manipulate shapes with added transformation points.
    • Useful for adjusting shapes without distorting their shapes significantly.
