わけだ / というわけだ

~わけだ (that’s why ~; no wonder ~)

  • Xわけだ is used when the speaker find outs the reason for situation that the speaker had been wondering
  • Often confused with other conjunctions like だから, それで, and どうりで.
  • Essentially, it is used to describe a natural result of an action/event.

Conjugation

Verb (casual) \n Noun + である \n い-adjectiveな-adjective + なわけだ \n わけです

Examples

暑いわけだ。気温が36度もある。

No wonder it feels so hot, it’s 36 degrees Celsius. 

彼は日本に10年住んでいるから、日本語が上手なわけだ。

He’s been living in Japan for 10 years so no wonder he is great at Japanese.

  • This expression is an extension of わけだ and is used to summarize or rephrase something that was previously stated by the listener or the speaker
