Addressing the needs of the society
-improving well being of different groups of people by responding to the issues and challenges they face
Addressing need of elderly
Efforts by individuals
mdm maligesvari volunteer as a fitness instructor in the Age Well Everyday programme
help to promote active aging and healthy lifestyles and reduce risk of dementia for seniors
Efforts by community
-RSVP Singapore engage seniors in volunteerism
the seniors in the rsvp serve more than 200000 beneficiaries a year
They help elderly patient discharged from hospitals, the mentally disadvantages and at-risk children in low income families
Efforts by government
Government agencies work with community groups like RSVP to encourage seniors to stay active , healthy and engaged.
-gov work with NCSS ( national council of social service) to develop resources and enhance the capabilities of SSAs
- developed volunteer management toolkit to provide SSAs with a frames work and guidelines on how to manage volunteers effectively
Gov set up policies and national proggrammes in a targeted manner to create opportunities for singaporeans to sow care to those around them
Despite the continuous efforts by gov and community groups there could still be gaps in addressing specific needs of groups of people and these gaps can be bridged by individual initiatives
Influencing decision making in public affairs
REACH
-A national feedback and engagement platform under the ministry of communications
- engage singaporeans’ view on public policies and listen to their concerns and issues
-eg. Gov and public working together to influence public policy i the designing of public solutions such as the jury for the war of diabetes (recommendations to combat the problem of diabetes)
14 out of th 28 recommendations were supported by the government . Gov installed more water coolers in public areas and diabetes awareness and curriculum were started fir children
Strengthening citizen’s sense of belonging
our unique national identity as singaporeans and feel our essential place in the society sharing common space, experience and values
