Retaining loyal customers : strong brand, unique merchandise, superior customer service help solidify loyal customer base; viewing customers with a lifetime value perspective rather than transaction-by-transaction

Marketing plan : written document composed of an analysis of the current marketing situation, opportunities and threats for the firm, marketing objectives and strategy specified in terms of the 4 P’s, action programs, and project or pro forma income (and other financial) statements
Important that everyone involved in implementing the plan knows what the overall objectives for the firms are and how they are going to be met
Other stakeholders also want to know (investors and potential investors

Planning phase : process where marketing executives and top managers define mission/vision of business and evaluate situation by assessing how various playing (inside and outside organization), affect firm’s potential for success
Implementation phase : process where marketing managers identify and evaluate different opportunities by engaging in segmentation , targeting, and positioning and implementing the 4 P’s
Control phase : where managers evaluate the performance of the marketing strategy and take any necessary corrective actions
Mission statement : broad description of firm’s objectives and scope of activities it plans to undertake; attempting to answer two main questions
