UA Early College Program Overview & Procedures

UA Early College Student Resources (ECSR)

  • All information referenced in Segment One can be found in Early College Student Resources (ECSR).
  • Located within ECSR is a folder entitled "UAEC 200 Online Documents".
  • This folder contains the UA Early College Student Guidebook.
  • The guidebook includes all policies and procedures related to the UA Early College program.

UA Early College Program Statistics

  • The program is proud of its students' academic accomplishments.
  • UA Early College students maintain a minimum of a 3.5 UA GPA every academic term.
  • Students earned over 7,000 course credit hours in the past academic year.
  • Students are represented throughout Alabama and several states throughout the country.
  • 62% of UA Early College students maintained at least a 3.6 GPA or higher in Fall 2021.
  • 68% of UA Early College students maintained at least a 3.6 GPA or higher in Spring 2022.

UAEC 200 - Cost and Procedures

  • Beginning Fall 2022, UAEC 200 is offered at no cost.
  • Students have one opportunity to change their UAEC 200 date after formal admission.
  • After the one-time change, students must reapply, and the 40 application fee reapplies.
  • A "mover" is defined as a student who withdraws from UAEC 200 beginning on the first day of the course.
  • When requesting a date change, include:
    • Name
    • Campus Wide ID number (CWID)
    • Desired session date
  • Contact the office via phone or email (ecua@ua.edu).

UAEC 200 - Point Requirements

  • Students must earn a minimum of 700 total course points to move forward in the UA Early College Program.
  • If a student does not earn the necessary points, they will be required to retake the UAEC 200 course, and tuition will be charged.

Important University of Alabama Administrative Information

  • MyBama:
    • Official administrative portal.
    • Access student transcripts, register for courses, etc.
    • Students should memorize their MyBama username.
  • Crimson Email Account:
    • Official University of Alabama email address.
    • Students should check their Crimson mail daily for communications from the UA Early College office and professors.
  • Campus Wide ID Number (CWID):
    • An eight-digit identification number.
    • Used for security and privacy reasons instead of social security numbers.
    • Students should memorize their CWID.

UA Academic Calendar

  • The UA Early College office follows the University of Alabama's academic calendar.
  • The UA Early College office is closed when the University of Alabama is closed for major holidays and breaks.
  • Fall Term:
    • Mid-August to mid-December.
    • Duration: 15 weeks.
    • Fall Two Term: 10 weeks duration, starts later in the fall.
  • Spring Term:
    • Early January to early May.
    • Duration: 15 weeks.
    • Spring Two Term: 10 weeks duration.
  • Summer Terms:
    • Full Term Summer:
      • Early June to early August.
      • Duration: 10 weeks.
    • Split Term Summer:
      • Summer One: 4 weeks, offered in June.
      • Summer Two: 4 weeks, offered in July.
  • Summer Sessions:
    • Content from 15 weeks is condensed into 10 weeks (Full Term) or 4 weeks (Summer I & II).
    • Summer sessions move at a more rapid pace than fall and spring terms.

Taking Courses Through UA Early College Program

  • Online Courses:
    • Offered during Fall, Spring, and Summer terms.
    • Disseminated through Blackboard Learn.
    • Opportunities to engage with instructors and peers.
    • Zoom video conference is utilized for live overview sessions, office hours, academic advising, and Student Success Coaching sessions.
  • Commuting to Campus
    • For those who live near campus, you have the option to commute to campus.
  • Transferability of Credits
    • Participation in the UA Early College Program does not require students to matriculate to the University of Alabama.
    • Students should work with their UA Early College academic advisors to ensure credits will transfer to out-of-state or private institutions.
    • Public institutions within Alabama are required to accept each other's credits.
  • Access Granted
    • Provides digital materials like ebooks, homework, and coding tools.
      *Materials are automatically added, but you can opt out.
    • Check Crimson email for Access Granted emails and opt-out information.
