Anatomical Structure of the Skin

  • Epidermis: The top, thin layer of the skin.

  • Dermis: The thicker second layer containing:

    • Hair follicles

    • Nerves

    • Small blood vessels

  • Subcutaneous tissue: Located below the dermis, consisting primarily of adipose (fat) tissue.
