Provisions (post-16)
School sixth forms
· An attachment to an established school- maintained or private school
· Only provides education for 16-19
· Referred to as key stage 5 or year 12&13
· A-level subjects- normally in core subjects
· Does some btech subjects or t-levels
Sixth-form colleges
· An independent sixth form that is not attached to a school
· Generally, longer than a school sixth form
· Only provides education for 16-19
· Offers a wide range of a-levels – over 30 in some places
· Offers some btech courses- 7 courses in local area
Further education colleges
· An institution that offers education to anyone above 16
· Courses are separated into two areas – 16-18 &19+
· A range of vocational or t-level courses, GCSE’s, a level, and access programmes also HE courses
· Language courses, ESOL, and sign language
· Ranging from a level 1-6
· Apprenticeships and SEND provision
· Aim is to provide people for the world of work
Private, independent, and voluntary providers
· May train and work with private, independent, and voluntary sector
· Private providers rather than college
· Employers work with institutes
· Employers influence current qualifications and education standards
· An apprenticeship has an equivalent education level and can be:
-intermediate- equivalent to 5 GCSE’s
-advanced- equivalent to 2 A levels
-higher- can lead to NVQ level 4 and above, or a foundation degree
· Work 30 hours a week in a paid job
· Study one day or evening a week on a day release
· 200 apprenticeships in a range of areas
Special colleges
· Some offer residential facilities
· Specialise in a subject like music
· Expertise to meet the individual needs
Arts design and performing arts college
· Specialist areas of study
· Develop skills needed to work within the sector
Higher education institutions
· University level programmes -level 6,7,8
· Study undergraduate and postgraduate programmes
· Some offer level 3 technical courses
· Foundation degree
