The conjugation for "ser" in the present tense:

Ser means to be. You can use ser to identify a person or say where he or she is from.

  • Yo soy - I am

  • TĂș eres - you are

  • Él/ella/usted es - he, she is

  • Nosotros/as somos - we are

  • Vosotros/as sois - y’all are

  • Ellos/as/ustedes son - they are

Subject Pronouns

Use tĂș (you) with

  • a friend

  • family member

  • someone younger

Use usted (you) with

  • a person you don’t know

  • someone older

  • someone you wish to show respect to

Use vosotros (y’all) with

  • friends, family and younger people in Spain only

Use ustedes (you, plural) with

  • people you don’t know, older people, and people who you want to show respect to in Spain; use it in Latin America with any group of people.

Use nosotras, vosotras and ellas

  • when all the people you are talking about are female
