anatomy - study of shape + location + structure of organ

physiology- integrated function of body and those of its components (homeostatis)

gross (MACROscopic) anatomy- study large body parts with the naked eye

histology (MICROscopic anatomy)- study of smaller components, using microscopes

comparative anatomy- comparing parts of different species to see how they change over time.

embryology (developmental): from conception to fully developed fetus

systematic anatomy- studying structures by their combined purpose


dorsal (toward the back or top of animal. can differ in eaning by animal)

ventral- toward belly or bottom

rostral- toward nose

use other nearby body parts to determine location.
