Audience- who the author is directing the writing towards Author's Purpose- the reason the author wrote a particular piece Analysis- Separating into basic parts for detailed study; An examination of anything complex
Argument- the statement of a claim supported by reasons and evidence Author's Perspective- writer's position or opinion on a topic
Central Idea- the most important idea about a topic the writer conveys
Character Change- the way a character's attitude, beliefs, or personality changes throughout the story
Characterization- determining the qualities or character traits based on evidence. Can be directly stated or inferred based on the character's speech, thoughts, actions, or effect on others.
Context Clues- clues to the meaning of an unfamiliar word that occurs in the sentences or paragraphs in which the word appears "
Dramatic irony- when the audience knows something that one or more of the characters don't
Fact-something that can be proven inference- the process of arriving at a conclusion based on evidence or logically forming an opinion or interpretation of the facts
irony- a contradiction or contrast in a literary text that often involves an unexpected situation or outcome; creates suspense, humor or surprise
Opinion- statement of belief or feeling
Paraphrasing- a restatement of information in the speaker's or writer's point of view/own words
Point of view- A person or character's perspective of the topic
Situational irony- An event that is the opposite of what is expected
Summarize- To draw together main ideas in a brief, but comprehensive form (2.) to tell the main points briefly
Supporting Details- Examples, facts, statistics, and anecdotes that provide a basis
Sequence- a feeling if excitement, anxiety, or uncertainty about an event
Textual evidence- information from the text in the form of facts and details
