2. What happened during the Scientific Revolution? Reason and logic challenged the idea of absolute power of monarchs.
3. What was Mohandas Gandhi best known for? Gandhi led India to independence in the mid-1900s with nonviolent protests and resistance against Britain.
4. What impact did the alliance system have on World War l? Multiple nations joined the war to protect allies, making the war much larger.
5. How did American colonists respond to the Stamp Act, Tea Act, and other taxes? Through boycotts and damaging British goods.
6. What did the United States founders focus on? Freedom of religion for all. How does that differ from the Middle East? Middle East culture and laws are often shaped by traditions that come from religion.
7. The United Nations Declaration of Human Rights applies to who? All people around the world no matter where they live.
8. A cartoon of Mikhail Gorbachev looks at fragmented symbol of Soviet Union. What does that represent? The collapse of Soviet economy and division of ethnic groups.
9. What did John Locke believe in / stand for? Natural rights include life, liberty, and property.
10. How did fascist Leaders of World War I (Hitler, Mussolini) use propaganda? To elevate national unity over the needs of the individual.
11. Who was the triangular trade between? Europe, Africa, and the American Colonies Why? Because of mercantilism...Britain, Spain, and France needed natural resources to make finished goods...new colonies also provided markets for those goods.
12. What do violent, unstable nations such as Mali in Africa experience? People leaving the nation (if they can afford it) and taking their skills and money with them.
13. What did the Industrial Revolution lead to? Increased modification of environment and pollution. New tools and equipment allowed for greater modification and manipulation of physical terrain. Fossil fuels needed for new machines polluted environment.
14. Who was Mao Zedong? Murderous Chinese communist leader. Why did he claim China remained out of WWI? Because it was fought for economic, imperialistic reasons.
15. What was the Columbian Exchange? Process of goods, disease, ideas, and people crossing the Atlantic. What did it lead to? A European dominated global trade network.
