Introduction to History, Geography, Geopolitics, and Political Science

Multidisciplinary Framework for Understanding World Complexity

HGGSP (Histoire-Géographie, Géopolitique et Sciences Politiques) is an academic discipline that combines four distinct fields of study to analyze and comprehend the complexities of the modern world. Rather than relying on a single analytical lens, this multidisciplinary subject uses four complementary approaches for every topic investigated. By integrating these unique methodological tracks, a multi-dimensional perspective is formed to evaluate global issues, societal evolutions, spatial organization, and political dynamics.

History: Analyzing Societies Over Time

History is a human science dedicated to the study of human societies through time. It systematically analyzes past events, social structures, influential actors, and historical representations of bygone eras. To construct an accurate understanding of historical processes, this discipline relies on a diverse array of primary and secondary sources, including written texts, visual artwork and paintings, architectural monuments, and other historical materials.

Geography: Territories, Spatial Interactions, and Environmental Challenges

Geography focuses on the spatial dimension of human societies, examining how territories are structured, inhabited, and transformed. It investigates the interactions between societies and their environments, paying specific attention to human mobility, spatial inequalities, regional development, territorial planning, and representations of space. Furthermore, geography analyzes physical and cultural landscapes, involved stakeholders, and critical environmental challenges.

Geopolitics: Power Dynamics, Spatial Conflicts, and Strategic Alliances

Geopolitics is the study of power relations as they manifest across geographical spaces. It examines how strategic actors—including sovereign states, international organizations, and other global entities—compete, cooperate, and deploy strategies over physical and symbolic territory. Situated at the intersection of geography and political science, geopolitics provides tools to analyze territorial conflicts, natural and strategic resources, international alliances, and overarching ideological representations.

Political Science: Political Systems, Power Legitimacy, and Public Policy

Political science provides a rigorous analytical framework for examining political systems, theoretical ideas, institutional structures, and actor behaviors within society. It investigates how key stakeholders—including individual citizens, media organizations, and political parties—interact with governance systems. The primary focus of political science is understanding how political power is organized, exercised, and legitimized. Specific subjects of empirical and theoretical study within political science include political regimes, electoral processes, political marketing, and public policy, such as healthcare policy.
