Oxidation - Oxidation is the chemical reaction in which oxygen is added to form a compound called an oxide. Both metals and non-metals react with oxygen. It is also known as the gain of oxygen.

Basic Reactions

Metal + Oxygen → Metal Oxide

Iron + Oxygen → Iron Oxide

Non-metal + Oxygen → Non-metal Oxide

Carbon + Oxygen → Carbon dioxide

Law Of Conservation Of Mass

No new atoms are created and no atoms disappear. The bonds between the atoms in the reactants are broken and atoms are rearranged. Mass is never gained or lost in a chemical reaction.

• If the product formed is a gas, then it escapes in to air and the mass may decrease during the reaction
