Lymphatic Drainage

  • Need to know where fluid drains:
    • Right lymphatic duct
    • Thoracic duct
  • Understand what drains from each into the blood.
  • Lymph return to the heart is similar to blood return in veins.

Lymph Node Regions

  • Need to know the regions served by lymph nodes:
    • Axillary nodes: Underarm
    • Inguinal nodes
    • Cervical nodes
  • Identify what regions these nodes drain.

Spleen Functions

  • Need to know the functions of the spleen.
  • Example mentioned: Kid kicked in the stomach, Mrs. Croft's brother (no spleen).

Barrier Defenses

  • Need to know what barrier defenses are (select all).

Foreign Pathogens

  • Need to know the specific term for foreign pathogens that the body fights off.

Types of Immunity

  • Need to know the four types of immunity:
    • Active

  • Vaccines based on genetic makeup
  • Know the terms for different types of vaccines. These can be found in the textbook on pages 404 and 405.
