Greek terminology


Line Sister: Individuals who are members of the same intake class.

Prophyte: A term used to refer to an older brother/sister from a culturally based organization

Neophyte: someone who is new to the organization.

Parallel:Term used to identify members who become members at the same time. Typically used by culturally-based organizations (NPHC / USFC).

Divine 9:the nine historically Black Greek organizations that make up the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC):

USFC: Multicultural greek council 

Panhellenic: The governing body for all women's sororities on campus

IFC: IFC stands for Interfraternity Council, which is a governing body for fraternities on a college campus. 

Step: A historically black tradition characterized by synchronized hand foot movements, along with singing, dancing, chanting, and acting. Many Latino/Latina and Multicultural groups participate in stepping as well.

Stroll:  A line dance done by members of cultural Greek organizations

Salute: a unique art of reciting information in a line formation.
