Comprehensive Study Guide for Chemical Symbols and Nomenclature
Assessment Characteristics and Administrative Context
The academic focus for this period pertains to the field of Chemistry (QuÍmica), specifically centered on the foundational nomenclature and symbolic representation of chemical elements. An oral lesson (Lección oral) is scheduled for Friday, June 5th (05/06, Viernes). The primary objective of this assessment is the accurate identification and recitation of the symbols and names of elements within specific regions of the periodic table, ranging from main-group elements to selected transition and inner transition metals.
Main Group Elements: Groups 1 and 2
The student is required to master all elements found within Group 1 (G.1) and Group 2 (G.2). Group 1, commonly referred to as the Alkali Metals (with the exception of Hydrogen), includes the following elements and their corresponding symbols: Hydrogen (), Lithium (), Sodium (), Potassium (), Rubidium (), Cesium (), and Francium ().
Group 2, known as the Alkaline Earth Metals, consists of the following elements and symbols: Beryllium (), Magnesium (), Calcium (), Strontium (), Barium (), and Radium (). Mastery of both the full name and the chemical symbol for every element in these two vertical columns is mandatory for the oral examination.
Main Group Elements: Groups 13 through 18
The scope of the examination extends to the p-block of the periodic table, encompassing Group 13 through Group 18 (G.13 al 18). However, a specific exclusion is noted: elements belonging to Period 7 (excepto P.7) are not part of the required material for these groups.
For Group 13 (Boron Group), the required elements are Boron (), Aluminum (), Gallium (), Indium (), and Thallium (). Group 14 (Carbon Group) includes Carbon (), Silicon (), Germanium (), Tin (), and Lead (). Group 15 (Nitrogen Group) consists of Nitrogen (), Phosphorus (), Arsenic (), Antimony (), and Bismuth ().
In Group 16 (Chalcogens), the student must identify Oxygen (), Sulfur (), Selenium (), Tellurium (), and Polonium (). Group 17 (Halogens) comprises Fluorine (), Chlorine (), Bromine (), Iodine (), and Astatine (). Finally, Group 18 (Noble Gases) involves Helium (), Neon (), Argon (), Krypton (), Xenon (), and Radon ().
Selected Transition Metals and Actinides
In addition to the vertical groups, a specific list of transition elements and one actinide must be memorized for the oral lesson. These elements are chosen from various periods and groups across the d-block and f-block of the periodic table.
The required transition elements are Cromo (Chromium, ), Manganeso (Manganese, ), Hierro (Iron, ), Cobalto (Cobalt, ), Niquel (Nickel, ), Oro (Gold, ), Plata (Silver, ), and Merario (Mercury, ). Additionally, the actinide element Uranio (Uranium, ) is included in the mandatory list for the upcoming Friday assessment.
